Glitter Critters Premieres Debut Single “Feral Fusion”

You might know Ian Russell from the psych-rock band Orange Doors, where he sings and plays guitar. During his songwriting efforts he came up with a collection of songs that didn’t quite fit on the album that Orange Doors has been working on, but he still felt deserved to be recorded and eventually released. Instead of scrapping the songs, Ian started Glitter Critters and got to work recording them by himself.

The debut EP from Glitter Critters is called Caterpillar. We’re happy to help premiere “Feral Fusion”, the first single off Caterpillar, which is available today for your listening pleasure. Ian describes the sound of Glitter Critters as “flower power scooby doo pop”, and is currently in the process of putting a live band together so we can hear these tracks performed live. The rest of the EP is planned for release by the end of the summer.

Caterpillar‘s recording was done both in Summerville and in Ian’s bedroom in downtown Charleston. His room downtown has a high ceiling and the lights don’t work, so he rigged up a small table lamp fitted with a green lightbulb. The green light gave Ian a trippy atmosphere to record with, and after 5 months of recording and messing around with different ideas, and thus Glitter Critters was born.

Ian had this to say about the new project:

“For anyone listening to this, I am thankful and hope you can connect with one of the songs. And overall, I hope “Caterpillar” makes you smile.”

Stream “Feral Fusion” by Glitter Critters below, and look out for the rest of Caterpillar before the end of the summer.
