Brave Baby Release Video for Long-Awaited Single “Soothsayer”

I know this article is supposed to be about Brave Baby’s new single and accompanying music video, but I want to take a moment to shout out Paul Chelmis for being Charleston’s master editor. From the seemingly age-old interview we did with his band Human Resources, to the Human Resources cover of “Melt With You”, to SUSTO’s “Waves” video, and now the “Soothsayer” video, Paul has been making some dope shit and he clearly shows no signs of letting up. Basically, Paul’s the man.

Anyway, this is Brave Baby’s new song “Soothsayer”, a groovy bass and synth-heavy track that came after months without a peep from the band. The last thing they released was “Difficulture” on the Scene SC Sampler, but even that came relatively quietly from Brave Baby. In the last few weeks their social media pages have been revitalized with news almost daily, and its pretty great to see that they’re back on the scene with a twist to their sound that opens a lot of doors.

Brave Baby has been quietly in the studio for what seems like the past year, and this isn’t the famed storage unit studio where they broke in their guitars. Nope, this studio I’m referring to is drummer Wolfgang Zimmerman’s new Rialto Row, which he traded for the storage unit of days past and catered to his own specific tastes, from the wall art to the bands he brings in to produce for. Many of Charleston’s best artists (SUSTO, She Returns From War, The High Divers, to name a few) have been posting Instagram stories from Rialto Row, and even some great out-of-town favorites like Futurebirds have stepped inside. That means we’ll be hearing even more great new music in the coming months.

You can watch Brave Baby’s new video for “Soothsayer” below, and what more you can see them at The Royal American this Saturday, October 28th, for the Charleston Arts Festival Halloween Finale. They’ll be on the same stage that SUSTO played on last week, and joining them are the likes of Beach Tiger, Benjamin Starr, Matadero, & DJ Sista Misses. Dress up in your best Halloween Costume and get ready for a party. Tickets are still available here.
