Human Resources to Record New Music at Taylor Locke’s Studio in Los Angeles

Back in middle school, Aaron and Dries of Human Resources played in a band called Supermarket Shenanigans. This was around the same time that Los Angeles based alternative rock band Rooney was coming up, and Supermarket Shenanigans proudly covered “Blueside” off Rooney’s 2003 self-titled debut. Fast forward to 2017, and Rooney’s former guitarist Taylor Locke has his own recording studio called The Velveteen Laboratory. Locke’s manager stumbles upon Human Resources on Spotify and digs their sound, so he forwards it along to Taylor to give it a listen.

After hearing their music, Locke decided to invite the band out to his studio to record a couple songs. Naturally the guys accepted the offer and they will fly to Los Angeles to record two new songs at The Velveteen Laboratory from August 14-18th. I’m sure when Aaron and Dries covered “Blueside” they never expected to end up recording music with the guy who played guitar on that song, but that’s exactly what they’re about to do.

Taylor’s studio, The Velveteen Laboratory, was designed by Sound and Structure in 2011 with the intent of being a multi-purpose space where artists can rehearse, record, and make videos. Ever since Taylor turned his focus more toward production, he has worked with notable acts such as Linda Thompson, The New Pornographers, Sloan, Pearl Charles, PAPA, Wardell, and most recently he finished up production for Cullen Omori of Smith Westerns’ sophomore album, slated for a late 2017 release.

Human Resources is next on that impressive list, and working with Locke will give them some important insight into the recording process that will help their sound evolve even more. “California” is about to become a reality for them, and I look forward to hearing what happens when Human Resources steps into The Velveteen Laboratory.
