Charleston Bluegrass Festival This Weekend to Bring Mix of Local and Out of Town Talent

Awendaw Green is set to host the Charleston Bluegrass Festival this Friday and Saturday at Middleton Place Woodlands. The Charleston Bluegrass Festival is bringing in headliners such as The Grass Is Dead, Steady Hand String Band, Forlorn Strangers, Band of Ruhks and Dallas Baker and Friends. The family friendly campground is located just 40 minutes North of downtown Charleston. The festival will include ample room for local food, breweries, and friends to gather and celebrate the Lowcountry’s ever expanding musical community.

Gates open at 12:00 noon April 7th while the music starts at 5:00 with Southbound 17. Before the shows start at the main stage, festival goers can enjoy local beer from Palmetto Brewing, Tradesman Brewing Co., COAST Brewing Company, Freehouse Brewery and Fatty’s Beer Works. As well as food by The Big Southern, Fauzias kitchen, Damiano’s Wood Fired Pizza, El Pinchotaco LLC, King of Pops – Charleston and many other local vendors. There will be limited RV hook ups, primitive camping, in addition to single and two day ticket options. Ticket prices vary based on your camping or non-camping needs and are available here.

In addition to Southbound 17, the Main Stage will host Southern Flavor Bluegrass, Fireside Collection, The Barefoot Movement, The Grass Is Dead, and the Steady Hand String Band. Headliners The Grass is Dead is a Grateful Dead bluegrass tribute band for anyone looking for some Good Ole Grateful Dead Friday. Steady Hand String Band will close out Friday night with the addition of a Super Jam to bring many artists into communion for the first time.

For Saturday ticket holders, Coastal Expedition is running kayak rentals from 11am to 6pm, while both stages will start music at noon. The Coastal Expedition Stage will host The Pluff Mud String Band, Sauratown, Rover Boy, another set of Southbound 17, The Black Iron Gathering, Pinkerton and The Brinks, and will start their last show at 6:00pm with the Cane Creek String Band.

At the Main Stage, Daniel Patrick, Triangle Bluegrass, Steady Hand String Band, YeeHaw Junction, Violet Bell, Flatt City, Red Cedar Review, THE BUSHELS, Band of Ruhks, Forlorn Strangers, and yet another Super Jam hosted by Dallas Baker and Friends. Forlorn Strangers recently played a sold out night opening for Dangermuffin at The Pour House. Attendees were impressed by the authenticity and passion from the quintet based out of Nashville, Tennessee. Their careers have stayed on the road, in 2015 alone they saw 30 states and played 180 shows. The band is made up of sisters Abigail Dempsey (fiddle, percussion, vocals) and Hannah Leigh Lusk (mandolin, percussion, upright bass, vocals); Chris Banke (guitar, mandolin, vocals); Benjamin Lusk (banjo, guitar, vocals); and Jesse Thompson (upright bass, dobro, guitar, vocals). Forlorn Strangers build their Americana roots around lively and consistent percussion and folk harmonies that unifies the members of the band and the crowd.
