SUSTO Stories Episode 4: Jah Werx

SUSTO Stories Ep. 4: Jah Werx

Yesterday, SUSTO and WAV dropped the fourth installment in the SUSTO Stories video series. This time, they hit us with yet another song off the upcoming SUSTO album: “Jah Werx”. The video features footage of the band playing the song at drummer Marshall’s house, as well as some footage of the band hanging out on Sullivan’s Island, with container ships passing offshore – something that is a common sight for residents of Charleston.

As always, Matt Zutell and Dries Vandenberg of WAV did an excellent job with the recording and production of this video, and SUSTO kills it as per usual.

We also get to hear the band talk a bit about the inspiration for “Jah Werx”, which according to guitarist and keyboardist, Corey Campell, came from a time when they were “just sitting around talking about God, and then Johnny wrote a song about a spaghetti monster.”

They then took the lyrics that Johnny wrote and morphed them into “Jah Werx”, which is a more serious take on a song about God. Like many other SUSTO songs, this one has a deep air of spirituality about it, and here especially they pay homage to the Earth and nature in general, and how everything goes back in the ground when it’s all over. Check it out.

“Jah werx, and I’m fine today.”

Updated 2/5/17: Lyrics for Jah Werx by SUSTO

Jah werx and I’m fine today
at the same damn time, at the same damn time.
Jah werx & I’m fine today
at the same damn time, at the same damn time.

When night and the fire comes,
I’ll be holding you down now
holding you down down slow.
And I know, when the fire stops,
you’ll be holding me down, down
holding me down I know.

Jah werx and I’m fine today
at the same damn time, at the same damn time.
Jah werx & I’m fine today
at the same damn time, at the same damn time.

Lifetimes in a carbon place,
it’s the breath in my lungs
and the taste on my tongue I feel.
Always put it back in the ground
because it’s going away, yeah
going away I see.

Jah werx and I’m fine today
at the same damn time, at the same damn time.
Jah werx & I’m fine today
at the same damn time, at the same damn time.

Update 2/22/19: SUSTO’s third album, ‘Ever Since I Lost My Mind’ is out now!
